The City Council recognizes the role of petitions to government in the communication between citizens and elected officials. The City is committed to citizen engagement, and petitions are one of many communication tools the City makes available, so citizens have input into the City Council's deliberative process.
A petition is a formal written request made to the City Council of the City of Texarkana, Texas, on a matter currently before the Council for consideration at an upcoming meeting. A petition, after submittal to the City, is a public document and subject to Texas Government Code Chapter 552, the "Texas Public Information Act".
