Benefits

The City of Texarkana, Texas offers excellent benefits with low premiums as a part of the total compensation package for each full-time City employee.  For details on each benefit, please refer to the sections below or contact the Human Resources office at 903-798-3915.

Medical & Dental

The City provides Medical and Dental insurance through United Healthcare. Full-time employees working at least 30 hours a week are eligible for medical and dental insurance on the first of the month following 30 days of employment.  

Vision

The City offers employee paid vision insurance through United Healthcare. Full-time employees working at least 30 hours a week are eligible for vision insurance on the first of the month following 30 days of employment.

Life Insurance

The City provides full-time employees working at least 30 hours a week basic life insurance that is equal to one times an employee's annual salary at no cost to the employee.

Supplemental Life Insurance

Additional life insurance can be purchased in $10,000 increments-up to a maximum of seven times the basic annual earnings or $500,000.

Accident, Critical Illness, & Hospital Indemnity Insurance

The City offers access to Accident, Critical Illness, and Hospital Indemnity Insurance through Sun Life.

Deferred Compensation Plan (457)

A voluntary deferred compensation program through MissionSquare is offered to all City employees.

Tuition Reimbursement

The City provides reimbursement for up to six hours of tuition, books, and fees each semester after the first year of employment. Please contact Human Resources for additional rules and requirements.

Free Gym Access

The City and Texarkana College are partners in providing free access to all City employees to the Pinkerton Health & Recreation Complex on the campus of Texarkana College. This facility provides full weight lifting options, exercise/aerobics/dance studio, multi-use basketball gym, 1/2 mile jogging track, racquetball courts, and 8 lighted tennis courts.

Longevity

Longevity pay is paid to all full-time employees at a rate of $5 per month for each year of service with a maximum of 25 years.

Vacation & Sick Leave

The City of Texarkana, Texas provides three to four weeks of paid vacation based on longevity, and three weeks of paid sick leave each year.

Short Term & Long Term Disability

The City offers employee paid short term disability and long term disability to all full-time employees working at least 30 hours a week.  Short term and long term disability are offered by Madison National Insurance.


RETIREMENT BENEFITS

Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) - Retirement benefits are through the Texas Municipal Retirement System. Employees contribute 7% of each paycheck, and the City provides a 2:1 match.  Employees are vested with 5 years of service, and can retire after 20 years of service at any age or once an employee reaches the age of 60 as long as they have 5 years vested into the retirement system.

Texarkana Firemen's Relief and Pension Fund - Retirement benefits for the Fire Department are paid through the Texarkana Firemen's Relief and Pension Fund. Employees contribute 14.7% from each paycheck and the City provides a match at 23%.
